My name is Alina and I am currently interning with The Lacuna Collection. With the launching of our new website, we thought this would be a great opportunity to create a space where we can share more about our company culture and atmosphere. The team at The Lacuna Collection feel that it is important for anyone who has come across our website and read about our services, to also be able get to know us on a more personal level. As they say “it’s not about where you are, it’s about the people you are with” or in this case, the people you work with!

As a growing company, The Lacuna Collection is a closely integrated operation. We like to think of our team as a family, one that is made up of driven, creative and forward-thinking individuals. As with many startups, our employees wear many hats, and no two days are alike.

I set out to interview some of our team members to give our audience more of an intimate look into life at Lacuna.

Growing a business from the ground up is no small feat, during the early stages of The Lacuna Collection back in 2017, there were many challenges that came with new territory.  I wanted to ask our founders about the important lessons they have learned along the way, and how they have been shaped through their journey with The Lacuna Collection.

Based on your experience, what is the best piece of business advice you could give to someone?

Liv Khan –  “It is important to have tenacity, to take everything with a pinch of salt and persevere through obstacles, in business you can’t take everything personal”.

" “In a sense I was naïve to many things, but through exploration and trial and error, moving forward in the right direction came naturally. My business advice would be to outwork everyone else, outwork your competition and you’ll be on the road to success.”"

Aamar Aslam - Co-Founder

Where do you hope to see Lacuna in 5 years?

Aamar – “I would love to see Lacuna as a market leader within the bespoke services that we offer”.

Jereme “Rae” Rust – “expand our warehouses to a global scale, while still maintaining that love and the close relationships with brands that you get when you are on a smaller scale.

Last year our team had the opportunity to experience London Fashion Week and see many of the clothing pieces we manage in our warehouses, come to life. It was an incredible and memorable experience, but we want to be clear that what we do behind the scenes isn’t always as glamorous. A lot of what The Lacuna Collection does is problem solve and manage the nitty gritty matters behind fashion brands; one might say our job is to overcome certain challenges so that our clients don’t have to. With that being said, the toughest part of the job also doubles as the most rewarding. When asking my fellow team members about the best aspect of working at Lacuna, their answers were very similar in the sense that they all mentioned relationships and working with people they enjoy.”

What is your favourite thing about working at Lacuna?

Rae – “for me it is knowing that we are helping brands in very significant ways. We are making a difference for them, and they do the same for us, that is very fulfilling”.

Aamar – “I appreciate everything, the good and bad, but I would definitely say building client relationships, and the people I get to work with”.

Liv – “meeting designers and also working alongside the team, I love that we are tight-knit and knowing that we are each other’s support system”.

If you could pick one, what superpower would benefit this company the most?

Liv – “cloning ourselves”.

Rae – “a super brain that can foresee and solve problems before they even happen”.

Aamar – “access to unlimited resources”.

Although superpowers would be nice, we know firsthand that most things don’t happen through magic, great accomplishments are all the more worth it when they are achieved through hard work! Luckily, we know how to have some great fun while doing it.

We are excited for what the future holds as we continue to steadily grow and expand, as I am writing this we are launching our new website as well as moving into an additional warehouse space. The core of this company lies within our passion to help brands through our bespoke services, we find motivation and satisfaction knowing that what we are doing is impactful.

On behalf of the team at The Lacuna Collection, we want to thank our awesome clients for taking this journey with us!

I hope you enjoyed reading this and we look forward to connecting with new brands and adding to our family.
